Melbourne Cup Heats Night Calcutta – Lots Released

Melbourne Cup Heats night is getting close. Not only will the racing on track be the spectacle, the Calcutta auction will also be taking place prior to the Heats getting under way.

Make sure you are on course to be a part of the Calcutta Auction. We’ll have the legendary livestock auctioneer Lincoln McKinlay selling off the lots and we will have Roger Oldridge as our MC.

Scroll down to the bottom to see details of the lots up for grabs.

HOW THE CALCUTTA WORKS

There’s 2 parts to the Calcutta auction. There is a ticket draw and an auction.

There are 14 lots up for grabs in this year’s Calcutta, consisting of between 4 and 5 greyhounds.

THE TICKET DRAW

Part one of the Calcutta draw is the ticket draw.

Everyone can be in the draw to own one of the lots of greyhounds.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased prior to the night or before race 2 on Saturday night (25/11).

In a raffle style, each ticket that has been purchased is put in a barrel.

14 tickets, 1 for each lot, are drawn from the barrel.

If your ticket is drawn, you ‘own’ that lot of greyhounds ahead of the auction stage.

All proceeds from the ticket draw go into the prize pool.

THE AUCTION

Each lot will be auctioned to the attendees at the Calcutta.

Bidding can be done as individuals or you can pool resources together and bid as a group.

After the hammer falls on each lot of greyhounds:

  • 50 percent of the sale price goes to the person who drew that lot in the ticket draw;
  • The remaining 50 per cent of the sale price goes into the ever-growing prize pool.

The highest bidder in the auction stage becomes the new owner of that lot of greyhounds.

Successful bidders must pay for their greyhounds on the night. Cash and EFTPOS/Credit Card facilities are available.

AFTER THE RACE

After the running of the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup on Saturday December 2nd, the prize pool (consisting of all the ticket sales plus fifty per cent of the auction proceeds) is divided as follows:

  • 70% to the owner of the winning greyhound;
  • 20% to the owner of the second placegetter; and
  • 10% to the owner of the third placegetter.

The boxdraw for the Melbourne Cup final is conducted following the completion of the final heat or race 12 on Saturday night (25/11).
