Not only will the 2023 Melbourne Cup will be a big night for the connections of the winning greyhound, local community clubs will also be cheering on their runners.
Sandown Greyhound Racing Club has again joined up with eight local community groups in 2023 for the Melbourne Cup Community Sweep.
The eight community clubs will be part of the excitement and looking to win a share of $13,000 in cash prizes.
Each community club has been assigned a heat. The winner of that heat will be the clubs runner in the Melbourne Cup final.
The club who has the Melbourne Cup winner will win $5000! the club who has the Melbourne Cup runner up will receive $2500, and the club who has the third placegetter will receive $1000. The clubs with a runner who is unplaced will receive $500 each.
In addition to the prizemoney above, the club with the best social media promotion will win $2000.
