Walter ready to take flight

Lakeview Walter will now be prepared for Launching Pad heats after a professional win last night at Sandown Park.

He was only fair to begin but put himself in the perfect position on the rail and soon found the lead. He ran home in a strong time of 10.48 and got the job done comfortably by five lengths.

“The inside definitely helped him tonight. After the trouble he had in his Australian Cup heat it was good to see him race with confidence and win like he did tonight,” said Harley Whelen.

“We trialled him at Sale last weekend and he went really well, so we knew he was in good order physically however you never know until they’re in a field but he was great.”

Lakeview Walter now has six wins to his name which puts him on the limit for Launching Pad eligibility – a series open to greyhounds with 1-6 wins and no more than 30 starts. The next time we see him will be in the heats on March 18.

Australian Cup finalist Lakeview Cruiser will also be heading that way for the Whelan team. He also boasts six wins and will next be seen in heats.

The $420,000 Launching Pad series runs over three weeks with the best young sprinters in the country targeting it. Almost all greyhounds will advance to the second week through either semi-finals or consolation series. Click here for details

Following Lakeview Walter’s win, star stayer Sunset Bourbski put forward a typical Sunset Bourbski performance. She got back in the field, hooked wide mid-race and stormed home to win in fast time.
