Aston Rupee opens TAB Melbourne Cup favourite

Brilliant youngster Aston Rupee has opened the pre-nominations favourite for the 2021 TAB Melbourne Cup.

In a market dominated by the sport’s best young pups, Aston Rupee is rated a $14 chance for the Cup following a stunning start to his career that has netted five wins from seven starts, including a stunning romp in near track record time at his last start at the Meadows. Widely regarded one of the premier sprinting prospects in the country, Aston Rupee certainly has the pedigree to claim the world’s greatest greyhound race. His dam, Aston Miley, made the 2017 TAB Melbourne Cup final which was won by Aston Dee Bee, with all three greyhounds being owned by Ray Borda.

Seven greyhounds share the second line of betting including TAB Australian Cup runner up Fernando Bluey, group 1 Silver Chief winner Lakeview Walter and boom pup Silver Lake. Also at the $17 quote are Lakeview Cruiser, Mr America, Shima Classic and Immunity.

On the third line at $21 is a triumvirate of interstate stars including Flying Ricciardo, Jungle Deuce and Sunset Spitfire, each looking to buck a trend that has seen Victorian trained greyhounds win 19 of the last 20 Cups.
