Do It to get it done

Jeff Britton is confident of landing his first Sandown winner of 2021 when he takes a big team to headquarters tonight.

Britton led home 57 winners at Sandown Park in 2020 – 34 of which at metropolitan level – but has barely troubled the scorer in 2021, a fact he is hoping to change tonight.

“I hope so, I’ve got enough in!” he told RSN Breakfast.

Britton rates group 1 National Derby finalist Do It as the best of his eight chances. The son of Fernando Bale has won seven of his 19 careers starts and has missed a place just once in five starts at Sandown Park, a fourth placing in the group 3 Cup Night Sprint on TAB Melbourne Cup night. TAB rates him a $2.10 chance to win tonight Free For All (race 8).

“It’s a pretty hard field but he’s drawn well and he can run. He’s had bit of a spell and a freshen up so hopefully he goes well.”

Britton was also keen on Mepunga Reject (race 10 number 4).

“He’s a little bit hit and miss but he had a trial and trialled really well. He was getting knocked around a bit but he’s had a freshen up as well, hopefully he can get clear running early if he can I reckon he’ll go well.”

The Watchdog tips both Do It and Mepunga Reject to win their respective races, as well as Mepunga Missile (race 3 number 1) and Mepunga Gertie (race 11 number 3) in what shapes as a big night for the Anakie based trainer.

His other runners are Westar Aileen (race 2 number 1), Hank The Hussler (race 5 number 5), Tyler Durden (race 6 number 3) and My Girl Kizzy (race 7 number 6).

The first of 12 races jumps at 7.04pm.
