Ennis aims to continue remarkable run

Fresh off training a winning quartet last Sunday afternoon, Brooke Ennis will be hoping to continue her remarkable run at Sandown Park tonight.

The Lara based mentor trains a team of 15 greyhounds in partnership with her husband Jamie, and while the couple have claimed a number of the country’s biggest races, Sunday was the first time they had four winners on the same card.

Not that Brooke, a passionate Geelong Cats supporter, was on hand to enjoy the kennel’s red-letter day.

“Nup, I went to the footy! I was eating a hot dog while Jamie was doing all the work,” said Ennis with a laugh.

“The footy started about twenty to five so I saw them all, though I did send Jamie a message half way through and told him he better stop that or he’ll be going to the track more often ’cause he never goes.”

Going back to the previous Thursday, Ennis has won six of the last seven Sandown Park races in which she’s had a runner and will be looking to further improve that record with three runners engaged tonight.

Race 1 box 2 – Barooga Brett
“I think he’s probably our best chance of the night. He arrived in really good order from Jimmy Psaila and went really well first up for us on Sunday. He’s probably drawn the best out of all of them.”

Race 6 box 4 – My Mate Lenny
“He’s in quite a hard race and he’s drawn horribly. He’s a bit hit and miss at the start, he’s going to need a bit of luck.”

Race 9 box 7 – Belt Up Bubbs
“He hasn’t drawn great but I don’t think there’s a lot of pace on the inside of him. He just needs to hit the start which he doesn’t always do either. I don’t think he’s a dog that will come from behind over the distance so he really needs to lead. I just really want him to come out even if anything. That’s probably his best chance, if he can come out clean and lead early.”

Elsewhere, kennel star Tritt Tritt remains on target for a tilt at the world’s richest race for stayers, the $250,000 RSN Sandown Cup and is a chance to line up in the group 3 Racecallers (595m) Speed Star event.

“Obviously the Sandown Cup’s been on the agenda for Tritt Tritt for a while so that’s our main target. I’m not 100% sure, but we might go to the Speed Star with him. We’ll just see how it panes out in the next few weeks.”

Tritt Tritt currently sits in third place on the Racecallers (595m) leader board with a time of 34.073.

The Bill Collins Speed Star will be run on Thursday 10 May and will see 40 greyhounds contest 20 match races with just under $200,000 in prize money up for grabs. Matches will be run over all three racing distances. Click here for current standings and details
