Hone In sets sights on Sandown

In-form sprinter Hone In (pictured with Brett Bravo) heads to Sandown Park tomorrow night for the first time this year.

He comes into his race with terrific form after producing a big effort to be runner-up in the Maitland Cup.

“I’m happy he’s drawn the red that’s for sure. The ‘450’ is probably more up his alley, but he’s going super. He’s one of those dogs that doesn’t know how to run a bad race, he just tries his heart out every week,” said co-trainer Kelly Bravo.

Hone In is renowned for setting fast times whenever winning. He broke the track record in his Maitland Cup heat and not long before that ran a scorching 24.97 at Ballarat.

“Everywhere he goes he seems to run time. I haven’t really thought about what he’d run at Sandown. I’d imagine if he can lead early he could go on and set a nice time.”

The Bravo team is the third kennel Hone In has called home during his racing career. Since he joined them in July last year, he’s had 22 starts for 11 wins and a further six placings which has exceeded the kennels expectations.

“We didn’t really know how good he really was until we got him to the track. Fortunately we’ve been able to keep him sound.”

If all goes to plan tomorrow night Hone In will be aimed at the Warrnambool Cup with the Speed Star and Harrison-Dawson the options following.

“It’s week-to-week with him, we’ll definitely have a look at it.”

On the west side of the country kennel hero Striker Light is set for Saturday night’s Perth Cup at Cannington. She meets rival Up Hill Jill for the 13th time and 8th at group level.

“They always seem to find each other. It’s a tough race and Striker has drawn well, the local dog West On Augie also looks suited.”
