Houdini Boy ready for Bold Trease

Houdini Boy rounded out his preparations for Friday night’s group 1 Bold Trease heats with a record breaking win over 595m at Sandown Park this afternoon.

In his first start for seven weeks, the Kel Greenough trained excitement machine showed his customary lack of speed out of the boxes but quickly improved to third place with a lap to go. He drew level with Zero Cool off the back straight and accelerated away to win by 6¼ lengths in a stunning 33.757.

The time was the sixth fastest ever run over the trip and set a new record for a provincial grade meeting. His phenomenal run home time of 10.51 giving every indication he’s ready for the 715m group 1 Bold Trease heats on Friday night, delighting handler Darren Pattinson.

“It’s good to see him back on the track and going well, it doesn’t look like he’s lost much,” he said

“It’s quite windy out here today so it was an exceptional run. He’s been trialling terrific, I’m really happy with him and I’m looking forward to Friday.”

It was the fastest winner over the distance since Dyna Patty ran 33.732 in May 2019 and the two runs couldn’t have been more different. Dyna Patty ran split records of 8.96 and ran 22.84 before getting home in 10.892. By contrast, Houdini Boy ran a pedestrian 9.25, 23.25 before getting home in 10.507 – some five and a half lengths faster.

Houdini Boy is the $4.80 favourite in Bold Trease pre-nominations betting with TAB.

The final of the $150,000 group 1 Bold Trease will be run on TAB Melbourne Cup night on Friday 27th November.

Five heats of the GRV Vic Bred maiden series were also run on Sunday afternoon with a number of well bred pups making their debut ahead of the $21,000 final on TAB Melbourne Cup final. Invictus Jaxon was the fastest winner running 29.415.
