Simon and Thief trial ahead of Cup heats

Earlier today TAB Melbourne Cup contenders Simon Told Helen and Catch The Thief had their final hit out ahead of Friday’s heats.

Simon Told Helen trialled mid-morning post-to-post and as expected set a fast 22.81 – his first section of 12.37 is not only the fastest he’s ever gone at the track but one of the quickest ever.

‘Phoenix’ is a winner of five TAB Melbourne Cup exemption races and is the favourite to take out the world’s greatest race, currently $6.50 with TAB.

The last trial of the day saw the ‘Briag Bullet’ Catch The Thief run 29.44 (5.18, 18.87) which was the best 515m run of the session topping him off for the heats.

Catch The Thief was runner-up in Prelude 5 two weeks ago and is $10 to claim the Cup.

Nominations for TAB Melbourne Cup heats close at 10am on Tuesday with fields expected to be out early afternoon.
