Pursell confident about and Sandown trio

Leading Lara trainer Brendan Pursell is hoping for a big night at Sandown tonight.

Speaking to RSN Breakfast Club’s Early Mail, Pursell declared Eagles Nest Egg (race 5 number 2) the best of his three runners engaged.

“I think he should be winning,” he said.

“He’s in terrific form at the moment and I’m pretty confident about him.”

Eagles Nest Egg caught the eye with his brilliant 29.096 victory on TAB Melbourne Cup night, the third fastest time ever run in a grade 5. He franked that form with a comfortable 29.37 win last Sunday making him the fastest qualifier for tonight’s final in which he is the $1.45 favourite with TAB.

Pursell’s first runner of the night comes up in race 2 with Big Wings (pictured above) to jump from box 1. He has two wins and two second placings from four career starts to date.

“He’s only a pup (he turns 2 in March 2021). He’s had four runs now and he’s done everything pretty well so far and he’s got a little bit of early speed.

“It’s not a bad field tonight – I’m just hoping he can come out and find the front and he should run in the first three I think.”

The longest priced runner of Pursell’s trio is It’s A Shadow (race 4 number 1) which is $7 after being well beaten by one of the country’s premier middle distance greyhounds, Weblec Ace, at his last outing

“He’s dropping back a bit in class tonight which should help him,” he said.

“If he can get out and get up there I expect him to good. It’s a matter of him getting out early from the 1 on the bend start over the 595 and if he can do I that I think he’ll acquit himself well.”

Pursell has had 20 city class winners at Sandown Park in 2020. He has never had a treble at the track, however has three city doubles at Sandown Park this year.

The first of 12 races tonight will jump at 6.47pm.
