O’Sullivan back from the brink

Late last year O’Sullivan’s life was at risk though after a long road to recovery he fired back to his very best at Sandown Park last night.

He began cleanly and took control of the race down the back straight. He went on to win by five lengths in a very fast 29.19 – the best time of the night.

It was only months ago where his career became uncertain. He collapsed after a trial and there were immediate fears for the worst.

“We trialled him about four months ago after the races here on a Sunday, he ran 29.28 then collapsed in the catching pen and had a fit,” explained trainer Neville Vincent.

It was a matter or urgency to get him to a vet.

“On the way home we were worried what was going to happen. We took him to a vet and he was on the drip that night. The vet said he may not make it to the morning, however he was up and bouncing the next day.

“We gave him a long rest and got some help from vet Chris Bohemo.”

The Vincent kennel has just three racing greyhounds.

“We also have his (O’Sullivan) brother Omar Little and Poor Old Frank who is five years old and has won 26 races. It’s a team effort with my wife and daughter. The three of us work together.”
