New Sandown Park track record holder Hooked On Scotch will start the firm favourite for Friday night’s TAB Melbourne Cup after drawing ideally in box 8.
It is the same draw from which he set the time standard of 28.939 in last Friday’s heat, leading TAB to install the Jason Thompson prepared flyer the $1.90 favourite for the world’s greatest greyhound race.
“We definitely wanted box 8,” said kennel representative Seona Thompson.
“When we were leaving this morning Sophie (Thompson’s daughter) went out and gave him a cuddle and he told her he wanted and that’s what we got so we’re very happy with that.”
The other big winner from the box draw was West Australian star Campini. The keen railer will exit from box 1 and has clearly been the best supported runner, firming from his $8 opening quote in to the $5 second elect.
The $630,000 TAB Melbourne Cup final will be run on Friday night.
