Tornado Tears draws outside in RSN Sandown Cup final

The RSN Sandown Cup has been thrown wide open following the box draw for the $250,000 final.

Fastest qualifier Tornado Tears has opened at $1.70 for the world’s richest race for stayers despite his trainer Robert Britton hoping for an inside draw.

“I’d like to reverse it,” Britton told RSN – Racing and Sport following the draw.

“I would have liked Benali out wide and Tornado Tears on the fence. With Rippin’ Sam it didn’t really matter but anyway you take what you get.

“Benali looks the leader, for Tornado Tears to get across is going to be difficult, but as long as it’s a cleanly run race and he find a spot that’s the main thing.”

Those three greyhounds have opened the three favourites for the final. Tornado Tears’ litter mate Rippin’ Sam, a winner of 10 of 14 starts over the distance, is the second elect at $3.20, while Barcali ($5.50) was the big mover after drawing box 1. Quick Jagger, the fourth of Britton’s quartet of finalists, is rated a $21 chance after drawing box 3.
