Shantui to start favourite in Maiden final


Shantui will start favourite in Thursday’s Vic Bred Maiden final after another impressive win today at Sandown Park.

Shantui was fair to begin then mustered pace to settle on the heels of the leaders. He suffered a check from It’s All Over however recovered quickly before swooping around the field turning for home. A strong finishing burst from Shantui had him take the lead in the final bounds to win by a length in 29.93 – the fastest of the semi-finals.

His performance backed up last week’s win on debut by a whopping 17 lengths.

Ruby Ohara caused an upset in semi-final 2 defeating the Jason Thompson trained Extreme Magic at odds of $15.40.

Gold Bombardier led all of the way to win the third and final semi-final of the day in 30.22.
