Absolute Power flew out of box eight and settled in prime position first time past the post. It wasn’t long before he put his rivals to the sword as he gained an eight length break approaching the final bend before going on to win by 6 ¼ lengths in 34.23.

The win was his sixth from just eight starts and partner of trainer Jason Thompson, Seona, was delighted with the run.

“We were absolutely wrapped.

“I was a little concerned when he drew the pink as I didn’t know if he would be able to get across, but he was just brilliant.

“We’ve had him for months now and he’s shown plenty of ability though needed some racing. He’s definitely learnt in his last two or three runs how to be a race dog,” said Thompson.

At not even 2 years of age, there’s no doubt that there’s plenty of improvement left in Absolute Power.

“He’s definitely got improvement in him – he’s a still a baby with more to learn.

“He’s the ultimate professional, he’s a beautiful kennel dog, he doesn’t carry on and does everything right – he doesn’t have any bad traits.”

The run was his first over 595m though the rise in distance will be short lived, with the Thompson team intending to drop him back to 515m.

“We’ll drop him back in distance. We won’t be rushing him into anything, he’ll go through the grades and hopefully going well towards the end of the year.”
