It takes two

The Jeff Britton and Angela Langton training combination capped off a memorable night at Sandown Park qualifying three finalists for next Thursday night’s RSN Sandown Cup.

Having earlier claiming the Group 1 Macro Meats Sapphire Crown with Oakvale Destiny, Jeff Britton’s Mepunga Tiara stormed into next week’s RSN Sandown Cup final with an all the way victory, while his partner Angela will join him with the fastest heat winner, Tarks Nemesis.

Britton didn’t give either greyhound much of a chance of making the final.

“I didn’t really think they were a chance to win – I just thought there’s $250,000 is up for grabs in the final, why not throw them in the mix.”

Supersonic Hawk is the third of their finalists to reach the final, after finishing second to former Kiwi Know Class.
Group 1 winner in New Zealand, Know Class cemented his spot in the world’s richest staying race in just his fourth start in Australia for trainer James Shaw.

Butterfly Bling caused the upset of the night when he upstaged star duo Rocky Bale and Sweet It Is at the monster price of $40.10.

Rocky Bale lead the field before weakening late, while Sweet It Is stormed home from last to finish second, joining Butterfly Bling in advancing to next week’s final.

Sweet It Is is Darren McDonald’s second runner after Zipping Joe had earlier booked his place in the final.

The box draw for the $250,000 Group 1 RSN Sandown Cup will be broadcast live on RSN from 8am Monday (May 19) morning.

The RSN Sandown Cup heats complimented an exciting night’s racing, featuring the finals of the Group 1 Macro Meats Sapphire Crown and Group 2 Berwick Mazda Harrison Dawson.
