Jason Sharp has high expectations for Junk Food Junkie when she jumps from box 2 in race 4 at Sandown Park tonight.
The daughter of Fernando Bale has had little luck in top grade races of late, finishing unplaced in a qualifier for the TAB Million Dollar Chase behind eventual winner Handsome Prince, and fourth to Sweet As Emm in a heat of the Geelong Cup. She returns to Sandown Park for the first time since July tonight, a track at which she boasts a 29.43 best time.
“She just has to jump,” Sharp told the RSN Breakfast Club’s Early Mail.
“She’s been jumping pretty well the last few weeks so hopefully she can get out in front. She’s been going well so hopefully she does everything right tonight.”
Junk Food Junkie opened a $2.30 chance with tab.com.au but has since firmed into $2.10.
Sharp, who trains a large team with wife Jessica in Avalon, has five runners engaged at Sandown Park tonight and was also keen on Handsome Jack’s chances in race 2, a $5 chance with tab.com.au.
“He’s drawn pretty well and has the speed to lead. He came out on his nose last week so hopefully he jumps a bit better this week. He’s a big chance tonight.”
Sharp also has Neymar Junior (race 6), Route Sixty Six (race 7) and Chun Li (race 8) engaged.
A number of greyhounds engaged in tonight’s meeting will have an eye towards the Sandown feature races in November, including McCooly’s Lad ($2) in the $10,000 to the winner GRV Vic Bred Series final (race 3), and brilliant pup People Get Ready (race 11), who won by 12 lengths on his Sandown Park debut last Sunday in 29.31. Following the win, People Get Ready has been installed a $34 chance to win the TAB Melbourne Cup on Friday 27 November.
