Jim Zarr Dashian added his name to a long list of young sprinting stars with a phenomenal 29.02 win at Sandown Park last night.
His time equaled Heston Bale’s as the 9th fastest ever at the track. It came at just his fifth career start which may have come as a surprise to some, but not to his trainer Jamie Ennis.
“Before he raced he trialled 29.20 here. At this stage I just wanted to see him actually do it, perform in a race in the same fashion that he’s shown in trials,” said Ennis post-race.
Greyhound trainers are typically cautious of opposition when preparing youngsters for a racing career. This certainly wasn’t the case for Jim Zarr Dashian, as he was tested against star kennel mates before his first race start.
“I wanted to challenge him, I went to Bendigo and put him against Barooga Brett and Southern Ripple and he put them away.
“He’s a very placid and quiet dog, he reserves his fuel at home but when he comes to the track he gets a bit excited in the kennels. Last week the late race didn’t suit but tonight with the earlier race the cards were in his favour.”
With five starts and three wins under his belt his main target may be the $420,000 Launching Pad series which begins on Thursday March 26. Entry forms go on sale this Tuesday, click here for more information.
