Amron Boy recaptures spark ahead of Harrison-Dawson

It had been a concerning few months for the Ennis camp with superstar Amron Boy going six races without a win and looking nothing like the freakish greyhound he had previously been.

Fans of the sport breathed a sigh a of relief on Thursday night when the champion sprinter returned to form with a devastating 29.11s victory in the evening’s Free-For-All.

Against a field which included Melbourne Cup winner Yachi Bale as well as gun sprinters Trapper Tears and Modern Collinda, Amron Boy’s 11-length thumping was a serious statement.

“It’s a big relief to see him back and winning so well,” said Brooke Ennis.

“It’s been a tough six weeks with him. It’s hard to know where he’s been. He’s had a few little injuries. You think you get on top of them, then you’re not.”

Amron Boy’s previous start at Bendigo was a lacklustre effort. Settling close-by into fourth place early, red flags were raised when the star wasn’t able to chase down the leaders as he’s done so often in the past.

“Bedigo was a real concern. We laid off him fully for two weeks, he didn’t do anything.

“He had a trial on the weekend and we were really happy with it. It was a good indication that he was back.”

Amron Boy is back in business at the perfect time with the Group 1 Harrison Dawson quickly approaching.

Heats of the Harrison-Dawson and Sapphire Crown will run on Thursday May 11 with the Finals on Thursday May 18.
