Kerr family claim first city win

David Kerr and his family snared their first city win when Keep Me Vivid won the opening race at Sandown Park last night.

Keep Me Vivid made relatively easy work of the task as he found the lead early and held on to win by ¾ of a length.

“It was absolutely fantastic. I’ll be honest I did have tears in my eyes – to win a city race is just brilliant,” said Kerr.

The achievement made more special given their team had reared and educated the litter of seven for owner Kevin Adams.

“He contacted us out of the blue and asked if we could take the pups. At that stage they were three months old, we reared them and did all of the work to get them ready.”

Of the four that have raced so far for the Kerr team they’ve collectively won six races from their 22 starts.

Kerr has been training greyhounds for just three years. Prior to that he had ownership interest before deciding to jump in the deep end and take the next step in participation.

“I had my own gardening business for 20 years, it was a bit hard on the body but I’ve learnt it’s not much easier with a team of greyhounds. Rose (wife) was a teacher for 28 years but decided to give it up to be a part of the greyhound family.”

Between Kerr and wife Rose they train 25 greyhounds and consistently have success. They notched up almost 100 winners in 2022.

Anyone who knows the Kerr team is well aware that it’s a tight-knit family operation.

“Macy (14-years-old) just got her catching licence and she loves it. She wants to give up school and get more involved, but that won’t be happening!”

Later in the night Landyn Bale scorched around in the Free-For-All – his time (29.43) was the best of the night and impressed most with his flying middle split of 18.67.
