Community Sweep set for finale

The $13,000 Melbourne Cup Community Sweep has its eight finalists set for Saturday.

The Warracknabeal Eagles Football & Netball Club have found themselves in the box seat after their alligned greyhound Plaintiff drew box 1 in the $1M Cup final.

Justin Smith is a man behind the wheel of both the Fountain Gate Cricket Club and Dandenong Football Netball Club who have Fernando Mick and Paddy Wants Pats respectively. He joined Matt Stewart, George Farrugia and Jason Adams on RSN927 this morning.

“Since COVID sponsorship is down and general revenue is down so a share of $13,000 would go a long way to helping any club,” said Smith.

The club alligned to the greyhound who wins the Melbourne Cup will win $6000, runner-up $2000 and third placegetter $1000. Clubs with greyhounds placed 4th-8th will collect $500 each.

In addition, the club with the best social media promotion will win $1500.

The final of the great race, the G1 Melbourne Cup, is Race 10 on Saturday night’s card. The G1 Bold Trease is the lead support act along with the highly anticipated ‘Showdown’ match race between Wow She’s Fast and Amron Boy.

General admission is $10, tickets can be purchased in advance by clicking here and are also available at the gate.

The night’s entertainment will go up a gear following the last race with live music from 80s tribute band Stand and Deliver who will then be followed by high profile DJ Joel Fletcher.
