Bravery completes comeback

Billy Stockdale guided Bravery to her first city win at Sandown Park yesterday, made more significant by a lengthy period of time spent away from racing.

In June last year she injured her bicep and spent almost a year on the sidelines. Stockdale showed plenty of patience and determination to get her back doing what she loves most.

“I took my time with her, she also came on season which helped as it meant extra time to rest and recover,” said Stockdale.

She resumed in April with yesterday’s win being her fourth start back. She showed the speed she was known for early in her career then held off Dark Arrow to win by 1½ lengths.

Bravery, or ‘Roxy’ as she’s known at home, was acquired by Stockdale when she was 3-months-old.

“I bought her online when she was a pup. Her litter was advertised and I bought four of them. They’re all girls, Pleach, Rebbaca Gay and Triscay.

Bleach and Triscay are retired and remain with Stockdale at his Hastings property while Rebecca Gay has continued racing in New South Wales with Nathan Goodwin.

Stockdale, known as one of the nice guys in the sport, has a team of seven racing greyhounds with younger pups also growing up on the property.
