Pursell bullish on Bluey

Brendan Pursell has five runners engaged at Sandown Park tonight and there’s one he’s most bullish about.

He joined Gareth Hall on RSN’s Form Express to discuss the chances of each of his runners.

Don’t Tell Bluey (Race 2, 515m – 7.02pm)

He’s had just the three starts and was so impressive last week. He looks a good all rounder in terms of qualities, especially against the grade he faces at the moment.

“He’s always trialled ok and he’s starting to put it together now. Unfortunately he’s drawn box 8 again so he’s going to have to do it the hard way and get across them. If he can get to the front again he should be winning.”

Bobby The Brute (Race 6, 595m – 8.22pm)

He’s a beast when he gets it all right. This is his fifth run back after a long spell and first go over the middle distance this campaign.

“It’s a very even race. It’s not the best box for him as he’s a bit tardy early and wants to get to the fence but he’s very strong. His last run was a little bit disappointing but we can’t fault him we don’t know why he was a little bit off that night. If he can get handy he’ll be strong enough to the line.”

Call Me Chloe, Belle Ali and Suntory Lass (Race 10, 515m – 9.43pm)

“I would say Call Me Chloe (1) and Belle Ali (3) have the best chances. Belle was first up last start after a spell and won well. Chloe is a bit tardy early so will need a bit of luck. The race is pretty even on paper but I think those two have good chances.”

Brendan’s best

Gareth asked Brendan if he was playing with $10 who would it be on. His response?

“I’d probably have $20 on Don’t Tell Bluey.”

My fancies for the night:

Race 2, Don’t Tell Bluey (8) – $2.40 > $1.80
I love the way he’s going about his business so early in his career. There’s not stacks of speed in the field and he’ll have room to accelerate out wide. I expect him to lead and if he runs up to his time of 29.42 that he set last week then they won’t catch him.

Race 5, Golden Skyrocket (7) – $8 > $3.80
She was the best value option of the night until that dried up on race morning. This is another race where there’s not heaps of pace and she’s a faultless beginner. She’ll be vulnerable late but is likely to be in control of the field as they turn for home.

Race 8, How Not Too (3) – $4 > $3.20
She had a great battle with Riccarton Rick last week and they jump side-by-side tonight. How Not Too showed better acceleration compared to Riccarton Rick. Rick will charge late but if How Not Too finds the top and sets her customary time of 29.30-29.40 she’s hard to get by.
