Freda Rocks Speed Star trial

Freda Rocks charged into the top 8 of the 595m Racecallers Speed Star following an impressive trial at Sandown Park this afternoon.

Trained by Robert Camilleri, Freda Rocks ran a moderate 9.20 first split before accelerating to run 23.08 to the back mark before stopping the clock at 33.913, good enough for 5th place in the standings.

“We had a discussion about it and we thought if she can break 34 we’d be happy,” said handler Deb Coleman.

“She just had to run a time to get in, so very good.”

Freda Rocks has just four wins from her 20 career starts, but has shown exceptional ability in those wins with all four coming in best of night time and by an average margin of 13 lengths. Showing that ability more often has been the focus for Coleman since Freda Rocks arrived in their Lara kennel in March.

“We haven’t had her that long, but when Freda’s good she’s very, very good. When she’s bad, well…

“But we’re working on her head like we used to with Rajasthan – you have to change things around so hopefully she keeps getting better.”

The final round of Speed Star trials will be run on Sunday 23rd of May, while greyhounds domiciled interstate also have the opportunity to trial between races on Thursday 20th and 27th May.
