GLENN Rounds is riding the crest of a winning wave yet it’s the arrival this week of a Sandown Cup contender that has the Devon Meadows trainer brimming with anticipation.

Enjoying a spectacular run of success with his formidable kennel, Rounds welcomes gun NSW chaser Zipping Truvy into the fold on Friday.

“Very excited to get her, she looks like she might be something else,” said Rounds.

“Her run at Bathurst on Monday was phenomenal. It was her first run for 88 days so to go near the record like she did was exceptional. She gets here Friday but there’s no immediate plans; I’ll just let her settle in and go from there.”

And while there are no immediate plans for the hugely talented daughter of Zulu Zeus, next month’s Group 1 RSN Sandown Cup is firmly on the radar.

“You’re never 100 percent if they’ll run the 700 until they do but she gives you every impression she will … looks so clean-winded,” Rounds added.

“We are still a bit light on down here with details for the feature race dates and prize money but if it all comes together the Sandown Cup is the target we’ll aim towards.”

Owned by Martin Hallinan, Zipping Truvy, a litter-sister to gun stud prospect Zipping Garth, joins Rounds’ kennels in prime condition, having gone perilously close to the Bathurst 618 metre record on Monday for Rob Tyler, winning by an ever extending eight lengths.

“I first met Marty (Hallinan) at the Gold Coast track back in the 1980s – that’s how long we’ve been friends,” Rounds said.

“I’ve never really had many stayers but I won’t do a lot different with her; she’ll be kept fit, healthy and sound. They either run it or they don’t.”

At Sandown Park on Friday night, Rounds is represented by the talented Fireball Friday in race five on the program, looking to deliver the kennel six consecutive winners.

“We’ve got a really nice team of dogs at the moment,” Rounds said.

“We’ve been trying to place them to win and things are going well. Fireball Friday will strip fitter for Friday’s run but the red box is a big plus. It’s a good race with some handy dogs.”

The most recent of Rounds’ winners was the exciting Aeroplane Eric at Ballarat on Wednesday night, living right up to his name to land a red hot 450m final in a sizzling 24.90.

“The time didn’t surprise me,” Rounds offered.

“We bought him around Christmas last year. He pulled up lame after winning in 30.01 at The Meadows for us in January and has needed some time but he’s a dog I really like.

“He’ll go to Warrnambool for the Cup heats next Thursday; it’s shaping up as a hot series.”
