Community winners at Crocmedia Nationals

Community Groups were big winners on Crocmedia Nationals night with $14,000 donated courtesy of the Greyhound Community Fund.

11 groups were hand selected after they were asked to put forward in 100 words or less why their organisation is deserving of $10,000 and what impact the money would have.

Springvale Learning & Activities Centre won the major prize – they provide food, clothing and bedding to those in need. They also help cover costs for children’s education expenses and medical prescriptions. During 2017/18 they aided 500 individuals and families.

“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to reward groups and people who do so much great work at the heart of the community,” said Tammy Collins, Engagement Officer.

Springvale Neighbourhood House claimed 2nd prize of $2000, $1000 went to South East Melbourne Vietnamese Assoc. Council (SEMVAC) and another $1000 to Yooralla disability service.

The Community Group Awards is one of two major events for the year hosted by the Greyhound Community Fund, with ‘Superhero Awards’ held on TAB Melbourne Cup night.

The Fund contributes $100,000 to successful applicants each year.

The Greyhound Community Grants Fund is a joint program of the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club and Greyhounds Entertainment, extending financial support to nonprofits that provide quality programming in the areas of health, recreation and community events and festivals that benefit the community in the City of Greater Dandenong.
