Fast5 – Thursday 1 June

After a huge autumn carnival, we welcome our first winter meeting with an early start – first race is at 6pm – and another intriguing night of racing from HQ!

Call her GOAT?
With Fanta Bale’s win in last week’s RSN Sandown Cup, she became the first greyhound to win a group 1 over all three race distances. The $175,000 winners cheque took her prize money beyond $716,000 and eclipses Miata for 6th place on the all time prize money list. She doesn’t turn three until August, and with four group 1 wins she’s already qualified for the AGRA Hall of Fame. Is she the greatest all round greyhound ever to grace the track? Let us know on our Facebook or on Twitter.

Oh, and her trainer Rob Britton will be taking over our Facebook page tonight from 5.30pm to answer your questions!

Just quietly…
Is Fabregal the most under rated greyhound in the country? The 39 month old chaser has won 39 of 68 race starts (winning strike rate of 57%), missed a place just seven times in her career, and has amassed over $204,000 in prize money. She’s made six group finals, winning two and placed in three others. She moved from South Australia to Victoria under the care of Lyn Smith in March, and is yet to miss a cheque in 10 starts since. After taking four starts to record her first win for her new kennel, she has won five of her last six. She’s also won at least three times from each box.

Tough to draw a line through
In race 4 tonight, there are six greyhounds having their first start over the 595m distance. Emily Jane (1) and Why Not Barrel (2) are the only two greyhounds to have started over the trip and have combined for one win from 25 starts.

Down in class
Has there been a greyhound enjoy a bigger drop in class than Brolly Bale tonight? A last start group 1 RSN Sandown Cup finalist, he’ll line up in a 2+ win event over 715m tonight. Cadalora and Caco Potion are dropping from a last start Listed appearance.

Age shall not weary her, but the pink box might
This column has long been a fan of Polijuice Potion. Two years ago yesterday she made her Sandown Park debut, running second in a maiden heat over 515m. She’s now made 57 starts at the track for a 15-10-8 record (26 starts over 515m for seven wins, 22 starts over 595m for six wins, and 9 starts over 715m for two wins). She certainly qualifies as a track specialist, about the one thing she hasn’t done is win from box 8 over any distance – she’s only run 3rd twice in seven starts in the pink.

The good thing: Zipping Hooch (race 2 number 1)
Each way all day: Gregorovitch (race 6 number 3)
