Weston East back on track

Weston East returns to racing tomorrow night in TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude 7.

He faces a tough task as he will line up against American Monster, Buck Forty and Fanta Bale to name a few. Owner and trainer Angela Langton has low expectations yet high hopes of Weston East’s chances.

“He’s probably drawn on the wrong side of the track. He’s a little underdone but hopefully he can find a bit of luck and put in a good run – he will be trying his hardest,” said Langton.

He returns to the track following three months spent on the sideline after a muscle injury temporarily halted his racing schedule. During his return Weston East underwent some tender loving care, as well a bit of exercise.

“Time off meant plenty of massages and rest. During recovery he did a lot of walking and once the muscle fully recovered he was able to start trialing again. He’s had a couple of trials at Sandown lately and has gone well.”

Weston East has won 14 and placed in 17 of his 63 career starts, amassing $122,925 in prize money.

“He doesn’t have a lot of speed out of the boxes but he tries hard no matter what position he’s in during a race. He’s been a pleasure to train – we couldn’t ask for much more.”

Kahn as he is known at home, has already been claimed as a pet at the completion of his racing career.

“He’s such a beautiful dog and will make a great pet, he loves a cuddle and attention – my sister has already put her hand up to take him home.”

Tomorrow night’s TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude Series is the second of four to be run in the lead up to the TAB Melbourne Cup heats. The winner of each Prelude will gain exemption into a heat on Friday 11 November.
