Bravo’s take aim at McKenna

Team Bravo will land a five team attack on tomorrow night’s McKenna Memorial heats.

Headline act and current 515m track record holder Unlawful Entry (pictured with Kelly Bravo) returns to Sandown Park for the first time since May. The multiple Group winner will be debut over 595m, though given his strength over the sprint distance trainer Brett Bravo has no concerns.

“There’s not many feature races around for him so we decided to step him up. He holds the 515m track record and his runs suggest he’ll get 595m, if he gets around the first turn cleanly he’ll run a good race. It is a bit of an unknown but I expect him to run it out,” said Bravo on RSN – Racing & Sport’s Winners program this morning.

Benta Bale is another of the kennel’s strong chances. Since being purchased as a breeding prospect by prominent breeder George Farrugia, Benta Bale has arguably been in career best form placing in 11 of her last 12 starts and comes into tomorrow night with an impressive record at the track.

“She goes super. She was a little bit flat last week after her run at Bendigo the Sunday prior. She’s had a quiet week this week so she’ll be fresh. A month ago she won there in terrible conditions and broke 34 seconds, so she’s proven she can run the time – hopefully she can get a clear run from the pink.”

What’s Chewing will be aiming to bounce back to his best after two par runs since returning from a long injury lay off, after breaking tarsal bones in November last year.

“He’s going as good as he can go in trials but he just needs to find some confidence in his races. He’s done enough work, runs 600m naturally so the trip won’t be a problem. Hopefully he can get a clear run (from box 4) – he likes to get down to the fence.”

Sausage Sizzle and Hard Bargain complete the Bravo kennel’s five who will be vying for a spot in next week’s Group 2 McKenna Memorial final.

“They aren’t drawn so well, but we’ll see how we go.”
