Britton’s five-win haul

The Rob Britton kennel achieved a marvelous feat taking out five of the 12 races last night at Sandown Park.

Although they were all winning chances kennel representative Peter Riley was taken back.

“It came as a bit of a surprise – we knew Fanta Bale was a good chance but we thought the others would need a bit of luck.

“For a metropolitan meeting I know the Dailly’s have had some big nights – I’ve been working with Rob for 9 years and we’ve never had a city meeting like that,” explained Riley.

Rob Britton flew out of the country last Sunday, USA bound for a month long trip to look after his property in Abileen, Kansas.

“His son Tim has been working at the property over there – when he comes home to renew his visa Rob heads over to look after it.”

The Rob Britton team is one of the largest in the state but while the boss is gone its business as usual at his Lara kennel.

“Our daily routine doesn’t change – he still looks after all the nominations while away and communicates with us regularly. We have Mick Stringer from Tasmania over here at the moment to check the dogs before and after they race to make sure they’re fit and healthy.”

Fanta Bale highlighted the kennel’s five winners when she produced a phenomenal effort to take out the Maiden final in 29.81. She burst onto the scene last Sunday winning by seven lengths on debut in fast time.

“It’s been a long time since a dog gave me goose bumps. Last Sunday we saw what she can do when given a clear run but the way she weaved through the field last night after taking a few bumps was incredible.

“She’s done everything right from the moment she’s arrived. In her first trial at Sandown she run 29.61, Maiden class greyhounds just don’t do that. Being a daughter of Ucme Typhoon we expect she’ll get stronger – she could be anything.”
