Great Britton

Jeff Britton stole the show at Sandown Park today, winning five heats of the Macro Meats Laurels.

Group 1 Sapphire Crown winner Oakvale Destiny (pictured with Jeff’s partner, Angela Langton) opened the card by taking full advantage of her rails draw to overcome an average start and charge to an impressive 4½ length win in 29.52.

Britton had to wait until race 7 before registering his second win when Mepunga Mia leading all of the way to record the fastest time of the day in 29.35. Mepunga Treasure, which at 21 months is one of the youngest greyhounds contesting the series, recorded her second career win in 29.52 in race 9. Just three days after winning at Group 3 level, Weblec Belle won race 10 in 29.40, and when Cosmic Owl ran down Dyna Nico to land the final race, Britton had five winners for the day.

To make a memorable day even better, Footluce Diva, Oakvale Destiny, Diva’s Shadow and Weblec Rose also qualified for next Sunday’s semi finals, giving him 10 of the 32 semi finalists. In fact, only one of Britton’s 11 heat runners didn’t qualify for the semi-finals – Group 1 Maturity winner Mepunga Hayley.

Other Laurels heat winners included Ousai Bale, Pud and Lamia Bale which has a big week ahead after also qualifying for Thursday night’s $36,000 Group 3 Sir John Dillon Memorial final.

The final of the $72,500 Group 2 Macro Meats Laurels will be run on Sunday 21 December.
