Greyhound racing fans are in for a rare treat this Thursday night with 12 Group 1 heats on a stellar card of greyhound racing.
The 64 runners drawn in TAB Melbourne Cup heats have combined for 924 race wins and $6,469,624 in prize money, while the 32 runners contesting the Solo Bold Trease have $2,934,324 in prize money and 402 wins between them. The combined total of $9,403,948 in prize money and 1326 race wins is a record for competitors at an Australian greyhound meeting.
“We’re delighted with the quality of this year’s nominations for both the TAB Melbourne Cup and the Solo Bold Trease,” said Racing and Media Manager Mick Floyd.
“We received 105 nominations for the Cup, with greyhounds coming from across Australia, and indeed across the world.”
Greyhounds from every state except South Australia are represented, as well greyhounds from New Zealand, Ireland and the United States.
“TAB Melbourne Cup heats night brings together the best greyhounds – both sprinters and stayers – together on one sensational night of racing. I encourage racing fans of all codes to get along to the track this Thursday night.”
Among the 96 runners, 28 have already tasted success at Group level including 11 individual Group 1 winners.
$185,000 in prize money is up for grabs this Thursday night, with the winner of each TAB Melbourne Cup heat set to contest the $500,000 final, while the winner and runner up of each Solo Bold Trease heat will progress to the $145,000 final, both to be run on Thursday 21 November.
The box draw for both finals will be conducted at Sandown Park at 12noon on Friday 15 November and will be simulcast on SKY Racing 1 and RSN – Racing and Sport. The event is open to the public and a free BBQ and giveaways will be on offer for those in attendance.
