Britton’s Sunday best

Jeff Britton had a day to remember at Sandown Park last Sunday, arriving at the track with five runners and returning home with five winners.

Jeff Britton and Angela LangtonTo cap a remarkable day for the family, Jeff’s partner Angela also won with her only runner on the card, while brother Robert also trained a double.

Jeff started the day with a win in the opening event with Reanimation breaking his maiden status before Angela took out the second with Tarks Jewel.

Jeff made it a clean sweep of the 595m maiden heats when Sam’s Sionara won race three, but had to wait until race 10 to complete his treble when El Rojo Tini scored a three length win. Race 11 and 12 went the same way with Semi Earner and Mepunga Deejay completing the memorable achievement.

“Robert asked me on to the track if I had a winner, I thought with a bit of luck I might get three or four,” said Jeff.

“It was just one of those days I guess.”

A one dollar all-up bet on Jeff’s quintet would have returned $110.20, not that Jeff backed any of them.

“Was too busy to have a bet,” he said with a laugh.

“I thought my best chance was Mepunga Dee Jay in the last, but thought with four winners already if I backed him I’ll jinx it.”

Despite having trained over 100 winners this year as well as numerous feature races over the years, Jeff believes this was his most successful haul at a metropolitan venue.

“About 12 years ago I had five winners at Horsham, and I think it was from five starters that day too.

“I reckon I’ve had three winners in town a few times, but never anything like five.”

The popular couple from Anakie has a busy night ahead of them on Thursday night at Sandown Park, where Jeff and Angela have 12 runners engaged between them, including their six winners from Sunday.

“I think they’re going to need a bit of luck on Thursday, they’ve drawn some pretty good greyhounds.

“Sam’s Sionara (race 1 box 8) is probably the best chance. She normally comes out a bit better than she did on Sunday where she got checked and lost about three lengths, so hopefully she’ll be able to lead and improve a bit off her heat run.”

GRV’s free form service The Watchdog has Sam’s Sionara as its top pick in the race, and rates the son of Premier Fantasy a $2.80 chance to win.
