Nation’s finest assemble for Australia’s greatest race

Greyhound racing fans are in for a treat on Thursday night with one of the best TAB Melbourne Cup heats series in the event’s 57 year history.

The 64 greyhounds competing in the eight heats features 20 Group race winners and have combined for a total of 858 wins and $5,302,112 in prize money.

“The club is absolutely delighted with the quality of this year’s TAB Melbourne Cup heats,” said Michael Floyd, Racing and Media Manager.

“The TAB Melbourne Cup has always held a special place on the national racing calendar, and with the increase in prize money to $500,000 this year making it the richest greyhound race ever run anywhere in the world, we’re rapt to see trainers from around the country to support the race.”

The club received 99 nominations for the event, including entries from New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia.

While no TAB Melbourne Cup nominations were received from Western Australia, the sandgropers will take a keen interest in staying star Miata when she lines up in the Group 1 Solo Bold Trease.

The Sandown Park track record holder will be out to make amends for her defeat in the RSN Sandown Cup in May, and returns to the east coast in outstanding form having won her two starts in outstanding fashion in Western Australia.

Both Group 1 finals will be run on Thursday 22 November.

Entry to both heats and final night is free, and TAB Melbourne Cup final night will feature a guaranteed $500,000 TAB Quaddie pool, while one lucky patron will get the opportunity to spin the big wheel for the chance to win $500,000 cash!
