While Australia’s fastest chasers line up on the track this Thursday night, there’ll be plenty of action off it in Sandown’s Kids Fun Night Out.
Children will have the chance to ‘own’ a greyhound for the night, meet the handlers and trainers of their greyhound, wear the trainer’s jacket, accompany the trainers in the parade area and walk behind the boxes.
For the three place-getters, the children will be allowed to follow the dogs onto the dais to collect a prize and photograph.
Sandown Greyhound Racing Club chief executive Greg Miller said the club was pleased to run an evening for families during the peak racing season.
“We offer the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the stars of our show, the greyhounds,” Mr Miller said.
Entertainment and activities will include a petting zoo, laser skirmish and face painting.
Parents can register their children to join in the fun from 6.30pm.
Meanwhile on the track, Australia’s four fastest chasers will line up in the Group 3 $50,000 winner-takes-all Macro Meats Shootout.
