Sandown calls on Lady trainers, Tier 3 and veteran greyhounds

The closure of the Ballarat track has created an extra opportunity for participants to race at Sandown Park, and the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is marking the occasion with a number of firsts.

The meeting on Sunday 11 March will see a first on a Victorian metropolitan track, with the Club running eight Tier 3 heats over 515m and for normal Sunday non-penalty prize money. The final – worth $2297 to the winner (half the normal grade 5 prize money) – will be run on a special 12 race card on Thursday 15 March.

This meeting will be supported by four heats of a 595m No Metro Wins series, the final of which will also be run on Thursday 15 March at normal Grade 5 prize money.

Ladies will take centre stage on Wednesday 14 March, with a special Lady Trainers only series. Normal Grade 5 non-penalty conditions apply, and entries are restricted to one greyhound per trainer per race. A final, run at normal grade 5 prize money levels will be conducted on Thursday 22 March. All participating trainers will also receive gifts from the Club for their participation.

A Maiden series and a veteran’s race compliment the night’s racing.

A big crowd is expected on Wednesday 14 March for the final of the Cricket Club Challenge, during which eight community cricket clubs will be vying for $3000.

Trainers are advised that due to the race meeting Wednesday 14 March, the regular Wednesday trial session will not be run. A replacement trial session will be run on Tuesday 13 March, starting at 1.30pm until the last book trial. Bookings for this session can be made on (03) 9546 9511 from 9.00am Monday 12 March, until 12noon on Tuesday 13 March.
