Britton building towards Cup heats

The second TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude Series will be run at Sandown Park tonight with the winner of each Prelude booking their place in the heats of the world’s greatest greyhound race.

Leading trainer Jeff Britton and his partner Angela Langton will have a strong hand in tonight’s card with four runners engaged across the three Preludes.

The couple have a strong team of emerging sprinters and will be worth following through the spring. He joined the team on RSN Central to discuss his runners tonight and dogs to follow through spring:

Race 6 (Prelude 4): Mister Harlewood (box 2), $2.80
“There’s a bit of pace in the race so I’m hoping he can jump at least second and run home strongly”

Race 6 (Prelude 4): Circle Of Dreams (box 5), $5
“I’m trying to get some runs under he belt. I like to go into he Melbourne Cup with 2 or 3 months of racing. When she went around Geelong, maybe the horseshoe doesn’t suit her as well as the circle we’ll find out tonight. She hasn’t had a lot of racing, I’m just trying to get a few runs under her belt, and I hope she doesn’t get in the road of Mister Harlewood”

Race 7 (Prelude 5): Black Signature (box 5), $6.50
“He’s been unlucky. Everywhere I’ve gone other than Sandown he hasn’t gone as well, so I wanted to get him back there and get him on his home track and hopefully he can do what he can do there because he’s always gone well there.”

Race 8 (Prelude 6): Mepunga Maggie (box 2), $5 pictured above
“She’ll have to lead, then rely on a bit of trouble behind her because a dog like Spring Bridge will always run her down.”

Jeff also cited two greyhounds to follow leading into the TAB Melbourne Cup series.

“Weblec Ace because he can begin. He ran a really good time when he won the Cranbourne Puppy Classic where he went 29.92, so I’m hoping that he can go well.

“I’ve got another one there, Mepunga Wonder. He’s only won one race. He’s had an injury and had six months off and had his first run back and went 22.27 around Geelong. Hopefully we can get another month of racing into him and hopefully he goes OK.”

The heats of the TAB Melbourne Cup will be run on Friday 22 November with the $630,000 group 1 final to be held on Friday 29 November.
