Stardom beckons for flawless Amron Boy

Greyhound racing is being spoilt for talent in 2022. Incredibly fast race dogs are making statements all over the country – but there is none hotter right now than Amron Boy.

Amron Boy made it a perfect three from three to start his career at Sandown Park on Thursday night, holding off a hounding Kelsey Bale to score in 29.21.

He began on terms and led with a lap to go despite pressure on his tail from Kelsey Bale. The pair would leave the remainder of the field with no hope as they battled it out across the back. Amron Boy kicked away on the home straight and prevailed to keep his record flawless.

Trainer Brooke Ennis was delighted with the run.

“It was very exciting,” she said.

“I thought initially she (Kelsey Bale) would lead him after she ran five flat on Sunday. I wasn’t concerned that she was going to run him down – his mid-race sectionals were far better than hers on the weekend.”

Amron Boy’s quick rise to stardom has been nothing short of spectacular, lighting up Sandown on three separate occasions. A 29.32, 15 length debut win, followed by a jaw-dropping 29.06 domination on Sunday was enough to grab the instant attention of the racing world – and rightfully so!

With new information on sectional times now readily available at Sandown Park, Amron Boy’s mid-race splits have been completely unmatched so far – granting him position as the most promising prospect in the land.

Reminiscent of the nature in which TAB Phoenix winner Wow She’s Fast arrived on scene, Amron Boy has sent shock waves through greyhound racing social media, generating a storm of photos, videos and articles in the space of just two weeks.

“Whilst it’s exciting, we just want to keep a level head and take it day by day.”

He is not the only one dealing with the superstar treatment, however.

“The hype is playing up on me a little bit which doesn’t usually happen. We know he’s quick but I just hope he becomes a great race dog. He doesn’t give you much at home but he’s starting to learn what it’s all about and you can see he gets more and more excited with every race.”

“I’m not used to seeing my face everywhere. I’ve copped a bit of flak this week but when you have dogs like this you just have to take it in your stride.”

Amron Boy will head into next month’s Launching Pad series as a major contender and all connections have very high hopes.

“He’ll probably have one more run either here or at The Meadows before the series. It would be nice to win a big race early in his career. I would love to get Jimmy Psaila another group race – we’ve been training for him for a long time.”

Later in the night G1 Australian Cup runner-up Paddy Wants Pats set a scintillating best-of-night 29.16 to take out the Free-For-All event for Kelly Bravo.

Other Launching Pad hopefuls Black Spartacus, Amlin Emperor and El Dorado were all victorious.
