Music Event in tune for Cup tilt

Music Event maintained his momentum towards the TAB Melbourne Cup with a classy win at Sandown Park last night.

He rode some bumps early then found the lead down the back straight. He held off Shantelle Rose to win in a time of 29.44 – the best of the night.

“There’s only one target,” said trainer Mick Carter post-race.

That target is the world’s greatest greyhound race, the TAB Melbourne Cup. Music Event won a TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude the previous Thursday to secure his spot in heats on Friday November 19.

Carter has the option to nominate for next Thursday’s four-dog Shootout but has opted against it. Instead preferring to freshen up Music Event before Cup heats.

“I prefer he didn’t have a gut busting run leading into Cup heats. He’s raced the past five weeks so I’ll freshen him up and make sure he’s ready to go.”

Music Event was in similar form at this time last year however had no luck as favourite in a heat of the TAB Melbourne Cup. Carter says he’s much better placed this time around with age and experience on his side.

“He was a baby last year, he turned 2-years-old just before the heats. He’s got much more experience this time around and is more professional.”

Music Event is rated a $34 chance to win the world’s greatest greyhound race in TAB’s pre-nominations market.

The TAB Melbourne Cup will be run on Friday November 26 and will carry $500,000 to-the-winner.
