More than a winning weekend for Burnett

David Burnett has won some of the biggest races on the Australian greyhound calendar but the win of Wedding Or Baby on Saturday night couldn’t have been timed better.

Wedding Or Baby was named after Burnett’s son Jack and wife Lucy’s unique situation last year with uncertainty surrounding their wedding.

“Roughly this time last year the wedding was booked for New Years Eve. It was restricted to 10 people, went up to 50, up to 100 and then back to 10. They had to make a decision of whether to cancel it, or if to have a baby that year and get married the following year.

“It ended up going ahead with 100 people. Restrictions came back but the wedding just got over the line but after all they decided to have a baby anyway.”

As time’s gone on the name Wedding Or Baby is now better fit as wedding and baby.

“They’re in hospital now ready for the arrival of their first daughter. I’m pumped. She’ll be my second grandchild, the other was meant to be born last week but came 13 weeks early.”

Not only was the special occasion reason to make Burnett proud but the name of the family’s newest member had major significance.

“Lucy chose the name Charlie for her. My brother was also named Charlie, he died in a car accident when he was 21.

“I’m not sure they know how much that means to me.”

Wedding Or Baby’s win was the second leg of a double for Burnett with littersibling She’s So Amazing successful earlier in the night.

After long labour Charlie was born in the early hours of Monday morning. We wish the Burnett family the best with their newest member!

Also on the night Jimmy Redenbach claimed a winning double with two of the three greyhounds that make up his racing team. On Sunday young gun Collinda Patty smashed Dyna Double One’s 595m track record – an incredible performance!
