Rupee’s road to the Launching Pad

Aston Rupee is heading towards the Launching Pad in frightening style after his jaw dropping last start win at The Meadows.

He won the Country Championship final in 29.47 – a time they rarely get down to and clearly faster than Tommy Shelby’s win in the TAB Australian Cup.

“I wasn’t surprised he won but I was by the time, even I thought ‘wow’ that’s fast. He’s pulled up well from it too,” said trainer Glenn Rounds.

It’s likely that Aston Rupee will race at Ballarat next Wednesday for his final hit out before heats of the $420,000 series on Thursday March 18.

“I think it’d be good to get him on a big track for his last run before the heats. The eight day break afterwards will be enough to have him right.”

It’s fair to say Aston Rupee’s owner and breeder Ray Borda is up and about with what we’ve seen so far and what may lay ahead.

“Ray’s on fire at the moment. He does so much for the sport and deserves all the success he has.”

Aston Rupee is expected to be joined by kennelmate Limiting in the heats of the Launching Pad.

Transfer of entry forms close at midday on Monday March 15. The series is open to greyhounds with 1-6 wins and no more than 30 starts.

The Launching Pad final is set for Thursday April 1.

Another leading contender is Lakeview Walter and he steps out this Thursday night in Race 7.
