Simon Told Helen has been named the 2020 Sandown Greyhound of the Year.
Trained by David Burnett and owned by the Emma’s Boys Syndicate, the 2019/20 Australian Greyhound of the Year enjoyed a phenomenal 12 months at Sandown Park, winning five of his eight starts (and second in his other three) and $220,950 in prize money. He won the group 1 Harrison-Dawson and ran second in the TAB Melbourne Cup and Victorian National Sprint final. His fastest win was a slick 29.11 with his average winning time across his five victories being 29.23.
“It’s a real thrill to be named the greyhound of the year,” said David Burnett.
“He’s been a remarkable dog. He races against the best in the country week in, week out and always puts in 100%.
“I’d like to thank Dr Des Fagan and John Barbara in helping to keep him sound each week, and of course the doctors (the members of the Emma’s Boys Syndicate) for allowing me to train him.”
The Sandown Greyhound of the Year is voted on by the Sandown Committee, Chief Executive Officer and Racing Department.
Other greyhounds considered for the Sandown Greyhound of the Year were Hard Style Rico and Tiggerlong Tonk.
