Nangar Rust sets a stunning 28.95 trial

Nangar Rust set a blinding 28.95 in a trial after the last race at Sandown Park this evening.

The time is just 0.01 off Hooked On Scotch’s track record set in his heat of the TAB Melbourne Cup. The run was just part of Nangar Rust’s preparation for the Launching Pad.

“We brought him down last week and he went 29.43, I said to Mick (Floyd) on the day that the dog will improve out of sight after a run at the track,” said trainer Mick Hardman.

“He’s trialled 29.6 around Wentworth Park and close to the record around Richmond. He can run time by himself.

“Ideally we’d like an official trial on Thursday night to give him experience in the kennels, through the traffic and under lights.”

Nangar Rust looks like he will be primed for Launching Pad heats on Thursday March 26. Following the series his target will be May’s edition of Speed Star.

“We’ll definitely be going for the Speed Star and then we’ll be ramping him up for a staying campaign not long after.”
