Spring Bridge superb in final Speed Star trials

Spring Bridge produced the most impressive time of today’s final Speed Star trials forcing his way into the top 8 on the 595m standings.

It was a wet and cold afternoon not conducive to fast times, but it wasn’t enough to hold back Spring Bridge as he stopped the clock at a hot 34.085.

“He’s gone very well considering the conditions,” said trainer Jason Thompson post-trial.

Thompson has said many times that Spring Bridge is one of the fastest greyhounds in his kennel. He also attacks Speed Star with freak youngster Hooked On Scotch who sits at the top of the 515m standings with a blistering 29.087.

There were eight other Speed Star trials on the day (see below), the best of those Waging War with 29.468 which didn’t improve his existing position of 19th on the standings.

Nominations for next Sunday’s Speed Star will close at 11am on Wednesday. Next Sunday (September 15) will see 40 greyhounds compete in 20 match races with $190,000 in prize money up for grabs, making it one of the most exciting events on the sport’s calendar.
