Caley celebrates first ‘Sandown win’

Trainer Jason Caley claimed his first ever ‘Sandown win’ yesterday.

The success was courtesy of Hedonistic, known as ‘Harlow’ at home, who picked up just her second win in her 54th career start.

“It proves that perseverance and persistence does have its own rewards,” said Caley proudly post-race.

Caley has been training greyhounds for a decade. A lifelong love for animals drew him to the sport after a professional career in IT.

“When I was growing up I wanted to be a vet. Instead I made a career in technology and lived in multiple countries around the world.

“As time went on the disconnection from animals started to sink in. I parted ways with my IT career and decided to start working with animals again.”

His enjoyment comes from acquiring greyhounds who haven’t been able to find their peak elsewhere. He has just a team of three chasers at his boutique Dandenong base.

“The majority of greyhounds I take on are project dogs, they haven’t been performing adequately for prior trainers. It’s a great challenge for me.

“I don’t expect to be a high strike rate trainer. When a greyhound has ability and commitment the rewards eventually come.”

Hedonistic’s win today cements her spot in next Sunday’s Restricted Win final.
