Tornado Tears on the comeback trail

One of the sport’s megastars Tornado Tears is close to returning to racing after a solid hit out during a trial at Sandown Park this afternoon.

He jumped from 715m boxes and set splits of 6.17, 15.82 and 30.63 before he was pulled up on the arm covering a tick over 500m.

It edges him closer to a race track return after he was forced to spend months on the sideline due to a crack in his hock. He last raced at The Meadows where he won the Topcat Video Cup in September.

“The treatment for him has been rest. The bone has to heal and it’s about giving them time, then giving them even more time to make sure it has healed,” explained trainer Rob Britton.

“What he’s put on the clock today is good but it wasn’t my main concern, I just hope he pulls up well which so far it looks like he has.”

Now we know he’s on the comeback trial, the next question is, when will we see him back racing?

“I’m still making up my mind as it’s a difficult one, because I really don’t want to run him in sprints. I just want to keep working him up so when he does go in, he’s 100% right to go over the distance.”

‘Batman’ is one of the sport’s most popular stars, he’s won 19 of his 28 career starts and earned over $500,000 in prize money.
