Shima Breeze stellar in Laurels heats

South Australian sprinter Shima Breeze (pictured with Tony Rasmussen) stole the show at Sandown Park this afternoon with the fastest Laurels heat win.

She ran a quick 29.32 when defeating Flossing in the opening heat of the day.

“I’m not surprised by the time, she trialed really well at Angle Park on Monday night,” said trainer Tony Rasmussen after the win.

The sport’s most promising youngster Black Opium continued the amazing start to her career, as she claimed her heat in 29.45.

It was her 9th win from 10 career starts with her only defeat coming in last month’s TAB Melbourne Cup final.

Circle Of Dreams put the cherry on top of a memorable week for trainer Angela Langton, upstaging short priced favourite Federal Lilly.

South Australian Oaks winner My American Girl was dominant in her heat and completed a successful day for trainer Andrew Paraskevas. He had two runners engaged at Healesville plus one at Sandown, and fortunately won them all.

The powerful Sweet As Emm was terrific in the penultimate heat. She came from mid-field to run down the flying Time To Talk late.

Often Imitated claimed the final heat of the day for young trainer Brad Greenough.

Semi-finals of the time honoured Laurels will be conducted next Sunday.
