Speed Stars set to sizzle this September!

The Speed Star returns to Sandown Park this September.

The Speed Star is greyhound racing’s newest and most exciting format that sees the fastest greyhounds from around Australia racing head-to-head and against the clock for a share in $190,000 in prize money. There will be 20 match races in all across five events and over all distances.

Sandown Greyhound Racing Club CEO Greg Miller said that the Speed Star has proven to not only be a spectacular showcase of the sport’s fastest athletes, but an increasingly popular format for punters.

“It’s an exciting spectacle seeing the best in the sport in full flight. The racing is as pure as you will see – two greyhounds racing against each other, and the clock,” he said.

“Because it is so simple to follow, it’s really appealing to casual greyhound racing fans as well as the sport’s devotees. And with over 40 fixed odds markets on offer with TAB, it’s more like a sports betting event rather than a traditional racing event which appeals to the next generation to of punters.”

The Speed Star will be run on Sunday 16 September. Qualification is based on times recorded at Sandown Park since 1 May 2018. A series of qualification trials will be held in the lead up to the close of nominations on Wednesday 12 September.

Group 1 Harrison-Dawson winner My Redeemer heads the leader board over 515m, while champion stayer Tornado Tears tops the time sheets over both the 595m and 715m distances.
