Next-gen Thompson handles first winner

Daughter of trainers Seona and Jason Thompson, Holly (pictured), handled her first ever winner this afternoon at Sandown Park.

She boxed Double Que, or Pete as he’s known at home, who took out the third event of the day. Seona was trackside post the win and couldn’t have been prouder.

“It’s a proud mum moment, I could almost cry,” Thompson expressed.

Holly has handled less than 10 greyhounds in the short period of holding her attendants license.

“She’s been dying to handle a winner. She’s handled Sharp Diamond in his last two runs and he ran 2nd both times.

“He (Double Que) rarely begins well and we joked that he probably will with Holly handling, and that’s what he did.”

Holly turns 15-years-old later this month and is set to be a prominent part of the Thompson racing team for years to come.

“She was counting down the days to get her license. She absolutely loves it and she’s very good with the dogs.”

Double Que’s win has him advance to the GRV Vic Bred Mixed 6/7 final on Thursday night where he has drawn box 6.
