Zipping Nitro set for staying success

Zipping Nitro continues to sharpen his RSN927 Sandown Cup preparations following his first win over the staying trip last night.

He began fairly from box 1 and quickly caught up to the pointy end taking the lead through the catching pen. He led turning for home and did enough to hold off the flying Jane’s Intention by a neck in 41.98.

“He missed the kick a little bit but I’m real pleased with the run. He pulled up well after last week and was feeling good ahead of tonight. I thought he’d run well,” said trainer Ian Garland.

It was Zipping Nitro’s second go at the 715m after he ran 3rd last week behind Sir Jay Jay.

“It was always the plan to eventually step him up to 715m. He had a few 650’s and I had doubts whether he’d stay, but he’s got stronger and stronger each run.

“He’s more than likely to head towards the Sandown Cup.”

Zipping Nitro’s win last night took him to 6th on the Lizrene Speed Star standings. Garland says the series is an option en route to the RSN927 Sandown Cup.

“He’s probably found five lengths on last week’s run from the same box. Definitely look at it for sure.”

Popular New South Wales stayer Ebby Ripper will trial between races Tuesday night over 715m (Anzac Day Eve) under Speed Star conditions.
